At it's peak in 1944, there were more than 80,000 women in the Women's Land Army in Great Britain a quarter of whom were on dairy farms. The idea of uniformed women working in agriculture was also adopted in other countries including the USA and Australia. Nicky will talk about the organisation and work of the WLA and elaborate on their vital role keeping Britain fed in WWII."
