A bit of VA procedure..veteran takes a fall on Thursday. Must report to Memphis (43 mi drive) Medical VA ER where there is no Orthopedic Dept. or Ortho Dr, for X-rays. Then told VA will call “hopefully on Monday or Tuesday”? with authorization & scheduling of appointment with private Ortho Dr because of broken ankle or lower leg. Veteran has endured pain & very minimal movement to try to avoid further damage to broken area. Much swelling, bruising & constant ice to said area.
Just what is the new “Choice” program for our Veterans? In driving to VA, we had to pass several private Ortho groups. Could have been treated 4 days ago if he had been allowed to go to nearest private Ortho located less than 10 mi from home!
Question, does this make sense to anyone?
Xrays will have to be redone. Extent of damage may be greater than when 1st done. Setting & casting now vs possible surgery & pinning?
VA healthcare system is far from being fixed. Such a waste of funding.
Those who cry for Universal Healthcare, be careful what you wish for; the VA is a prime example of government taking care of your healthcare.
