Mark Zuckerberg - At Facebook, we stand against racism and discrimination of any kind. One of the ways we're working to build a more inclusive platform is by launching a new place on Facebook to amplify Black voices and inspire people to take action to advance racial justice.
If you're in the US, you'll see Lift Black Voices at the top of your News Feed. You can click to watch videos from Black activists and entertainers, donate to fundraisers for organizations like the Equal Justice Initiative, Thurgood Marshall College Fund and Innocence Project, and read essays reflecting on the Black experience in America.
The idea for the space came out of work we recently started to build products that advance racial justice. And this is just the start. We'll continue to grow it over time -- bringing more information and resources -- and we have more projects like this coming too.
I hope you'll take time today -- Juneteenth, the day that marks the liberation of the last enslaved African Americans on June 19, 1865 -- to listen, learn and celebrate the Black stories, culture and art that are featured. That's what I'll be doing to commemorate the day -- with Lift Black Voices and through a day of learning that everyone at Facebook is encouraged to take part in.
Our Diversity and Inclusion team has put together a series of conversations with outside experts to look at the history and experience of racism in the Black community. I'm grateful to everyone at Facebook who helped organize this important day and I look forward to learning more as we all work to fight hate speech, dismantle systemic racism and build a better world.
