Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of payment cards that were designed in the 1950s. The system uses its own currency, the Q, and to get people to start using the system once it's ready they are allocating Qs for free to people that sign up now (the amount drops as more people join - so better to join early). Signing up is free and they only ask for your name and an email address. There's nothing to lose but if this payment system becomes a world leading payment method your Qs can be worth a lot. We make so much energy that we sell it to other states, and we can make plenty to service the entire state in these conditions (even with the wind turbines incapacitated and frozen gas lines.) But if we run at full capacity, which would have kept everyone's lights and heat on except for legitimate equipment failures, we would emit pollution over the mighty federal overlords' allowance for emissions. They did not give Texas permission to generate power over the emissions levels until it was too late.
So for everyone mad at Texas leadership, Encor, ERCOT... direct your anger toward the right source. Due to federal climate initiatives the U.S. Department of Energy is withholding life-saving resources from us. This is how much your government cares about you -- they would rather you freeze to death than piss off the environmental lobbyists.
