In these times I think people need to tune out to the worldly doom and gloom and think of the things of God more. One thing especially in these times to think on besides our relationship with Him is the sovereignty and will of God.
What brought this to my mind is several times in the past month my friend who is a dear, has more than several times told me she was stressed about what she should do in regards to possibly moving to an assisted living facility. Her husband died in Feb. so she is all alone. She wants to do God's will she says, and she has been praying that if it is not His will she should go, that He will not let her go. Recently she was in the hospital and was told she would have to go to a rehab facility for 30 days, she said she prayed again that if it wasn't His will she should go, that He put stumbling blocks in her way.
This got me wondering how as Christians like her and others we can so underestimate God's power, authority and sovereignty. The Bible makes it clear that God's authority/sovereignty is supreme. Psalms 135:6 Whatever the Lord pleases, He does,
In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps. Psalms 115:3 But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases. Daniel 4:35 “All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to His will in the host of heaven
And among the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand
Or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’ Job 42:2 “I know that You can do all things,
And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
Read those again, Whatever the Lord pleases, He does.... no one can ward off His hand...and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted. The will of God is always accomplished, we cannot change it or thwart it. This is because He is sovereign. That is why we should pray when we ask for things that if it be thy will.
Everything that happens does not happen apart from God's plan for our lives or His will. That is true for all including the Son of Man Acts 2:23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. You see it says predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God. This was put in place even before Adam and Eve or the earth were created. 1 corinthians 2:7 but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; This verse says the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages. What does predestined mean? According to the dictionary (of an outcome or course of events) determined in advance by divine will. Why is everything predestined in our lives? It is because God created us, and made His plan out of His good pleasure and will before anything was created. That is what makes God sovereign.
God called Jeremiah to prophecy destruction to Judah for their sin. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you ,and before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 7:27 “You shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you; and you shall call to them, but they will not answer you.
Jonah was called by God to preach to Nineveh the hated enemy of the Israelites, and He tried to run away from God. What happened I think most people know that God sent a huge storm and the Lord told Jonah he was the reason that ship he was on and those sailors lives were in danger, so Jonah told the captain of the ship to throw him overboard and the seas were calmed, and God had a whale swallow him for three days and three nights. Now that was predestined to happen although Jonah didn't know that, He thought he was running away from doing a task. God allowed him to do this to show His power.
Romans 9:9-13 9 For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son.” 10 And not only this, but there was Rebekah also, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac; 11 for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God’s purpose according to His choice would [h]stand, not [i]because of works but [j]because of Him who calls, 12 it was said to her, “The older will serve the younger.” 13 Just as it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
Romans 9:17 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed [k]throughout the whole earth.”
This is true for today dealing with this Covid 19, God planned this for His own purposes, and we should turn to God, ask for His help and thank Him for His will being done, as His will is always perfect, because He is sovereign.
