Dear Abby. Have you seen the Geico commercial with they guy fighting 3 or 4 guys on a rooftop while trying to catch a helicopter and his mom calls for chit chat? This is how my wife and I felt the last several times we called my children and as of late our grandchildren since they got phones this summer. I noticed the only time our children called us began with can you?, minus birthdays of course. At several events this summer, grandkids ballgame, 4th of July and 2 funerals our children made no effort to speak to us. None. That hurts. That's when we decided that we are going to wait for our phone to ring to see how long before anybody misses us. Yesterday it was one month and counting. It shows what you mean to people and it is very lonely and hurtful. Perhaps absence will make the heart grow fonder. Perhaps not. Both of my daughters have turned their backs on the godly values they were raised with and are pursuing selfish desires of their hearts. Neither will even allow discussion on their behavior and this is probably why they have no desire to speak to mom and dad. The grandchildren I cannot explain except that they changed drastically after getting Smart phones and Xboxes this summer. I really wish their parents would truly put their kids first and not let electronics become their companions. We love them all so much but not feeling love back. What should we do?
Signed, Brokenhearted and troubled
