Reconciling Sub-personalities to Reclaim Wholeness

According to Wikipedia, a 'subpersonality' is defined in transpersonal psychology, as a personality mode that activates (usually only temporarily) to help a person cope with certain psychosocial situations. Our sub-personalities often manifest as inner-voices, peculiar habits, reactions, nervous tics, or speech and behavior patterns that seem so automatic that our responses to these qualities range from liking them, detesting them, or being completely unaware of their role in the complexity of our beings.


The majority of our subpersonalities develop during early childhood and adolescence as we adjust to the world around us, trying to make sense of the realities imposed upon us by the adults in our lives and our environment. For better or worse, they are a part of us. Carl Jung's Archetypes in analytical psychology are similar to the sub-personalities spoken of in transpersonal psychology, in that there can literally be dozens, if not hundreds, of variations along a scale.
