This is one of my favorite paintings by Rembrandt, painted in 1633. It’s title is “The Storm on the Sea of Galilee”. There is a lesson to be learned from the story. Notice the disciples panicking, while Jesus sits quietly waiting. Are we going to panic at something that seems devastating or will we simply ask the Lord to save us and wait in Faith? ✨ Be still in the storm.
Matthew 8: 23-27
23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the sea, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
Post note: this painting was stolen from the Isabel Stewart Gardner museum in Boston on March 18, 1970 and has never been recovered. Perhaps it will again be seen by the world soon? ❤️
