My husbands FB acct got hacked yesterday. (along with 500 million other users)
Now, his 'Latin' contacts have been getting messages from 'him' stating that he has covid and they need to be tested/vaccinated.
Also, one of his cousins, in South America, got a 'message from him', asking him to pick up some luggage at the airport for him and that he was going to be traveling there soon.
This is a potentially dangerous situation for anyone that may fall for this scam.
He got in touch with his sister down there telling her what had happened and she was saying that there have been others getting the same type of messages down there and that when people did go to the airport they were told that they needed to cover the extra fees associated with the luggage to pick them up by depositing $$ in an acct they provided. As far as I am aware of, no one has gotten that far in doing that.
The situation in SA is VERY bad; Everyone is scarred because of the covid scare and now with the elections, they are looking at another Venezuela type gov./scenario
