This is me on the left.
I’ve been a democrat since I registered myself to vote at age 18. I voted for Obama twice and for Hillary in 2016.
I grow heirloom tomatoes and eat tofu, the whole deal. I am pro choice, I support gay rights, I really am liberal. But this is no longer my party. My party has left me.
My views began to change when the protests started. I was hesitant. I didn’t want to upset my black friends or my gay friends. I’ve always wanted to be a voice for them. I’ve always thought they needed me to defend them. I’m ashamed to admit it, but I was one of those who assumed all black people were Democrats. A special thank you to my conservative black friends who have shown me otherwise.
I can not stand with the Democratic Party any longer. They are condoning violence and supporting terrorist organizations. I have been called a racist and a Karen anytime I disagree with them on anything. The attack on our police is astonishing. It is shameful. It is wrong. Racism IS real, but it flows both ways. I am done with anyone telling me otherwise. Do not try to gaslight me. I’ve been on this earth for 42 years and have had enough experiences to know. Oh, and the hypocrisy. If I see one more image of a white woman screaming in a black police officer’s face in the name of social justice...
It’s hard to see Trump in a different light. after 4 years of feeling the way I do about him. It’s a lot of wrestling with your ego. The media is very good at what they do. They do a great job of skewing reality. They headline all of his faults and hide anything good that he does. I’ve decided that I don’t have to love him to vote for him. I can see who the better party is this year.
This is me on the right. I’m the same person. My values have not changed, but my views have. I’m grateful for that.
